Cana Kids and Youth
Worship
At Cana, worship is for everyone! A children’s sermon is offered every Sunday. Near the sanctuary is an infants’ room for parents who want a quiet space with their baby or a place to change a diaper or nurse. We also offer a nursery filled with child-safe toys which is open for parents to take their little ones anytime they need. It is staffed by volunteers from the conclusion of the children’s message through the conclusion of the sermon so that parents can better focus on the sermon if they wish. Many parents choose to send their youngest children to the nursery for some part of the service, but we want children to feel welcome and included, and to learn to worship God by participating in the service! Activity bags for children are located near the sanctuary entrance.
Beginning around middle school, we encourage children to participate by serving in some worship roles alongside the adults. This includes serving as acolytes (candle lighters), reading the worship scripture, handing out bulletins, and running AV/slides.
Cana Kids
During the school year, pre-school through fifth graders can participate in “Cana Kids” (Sunday School) after worship. Here, our kids learn scripture lessons, make crafts, sing songs, and have fun! Cana Kids meets at 10:15 in the basement education rooms.
During the summer, we offer “summer kids’ church” during worship. This is a more condensed time of Bible education to keep our kids engaged in learning about Jesus.
Confirmation
Confirmation is offered to youth in grades 6 through 8 on Wednesday nights during the school year. During confirmation, Pastor Matt leads the youth in more in-depth study of the Bible and Lutheran history and traditions. Confirmation youth participate in special retreats, are called upon to serve important roles in worship, and engage in mission projects.
At the end of the confirmation program, our youth have the opportunity to confirm their baptism by participating in the rite of confirmation during a special worship service. This is an important faith milestone for our kids and their families. This is when they also become full members of the congregation who can even vote on important congregational decisions!
